There’s nothing like a good detox. After a period of overindulgence or overworking, detox spa treatments can help you to refresh. I always feel like a detox is a new beginning; it’s an opportunity to start anew and make healthier choices. I find I have more energy, renewed motivation and a greater sense of wellbeing after a detox. Here are the best detox spa treatments to opt for.

This gentle type of massage is perfect if you don’t like to be pummeled by your masseuse. It encourages the movement of lymph fluids around the body, helping to remove waste and toxins. This detoxifying treatment can be beneficial for anyone suffering from stress, insomnia or even migraines. To get the most out of your treatment, drink 2-4 glasses of water afterwards to really flush those toxins out. Also note that if you have any medical conditions, you should consult your doctor before getting a lymphatic drainage massage.
There’s nothing like a Turkish or Moroccan hammam bath. If you haven’t tried one yet, I really recommend that you do. I talked a lot about hammams in my article on the best destinations around the world for spa lovers, but you don’t have to traverse the globe to experience this kind of treatment. (Of course, it’s more fun if you do, but that’s not possible for many of us right now.)
A hammam involves cleansing and exfoliating your skin as you sweat out all those nasty toxins in a steam room. After exfoliation, a purifying clay mask is applied to your skin to complete the detoxifying process. In a luxury spa, you’ll usually enjoy an argan oil massage afterwards.
Gua Sha is an Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice that involves scraping the skin with a massage tool. Relax, it’s not as unpleasant as it sounds. The purpose of gua sha is to stimulate the movement of qi – or life force – throughout the body. According to TCM, stagnant qi lies behind many common health conditions such as inflammation and joint pain. Therefore, a little Gua Sha is the perfect detox spa treatment to get your qi flowing again and put a spring back into your step.
Who doesn’t love a good body wrap? There are so many benefits to this type of detox spa treatment. A detox body wrap usually involves being slathered from head-to-toe in a purifying mud or clay mask and then wrapped up in plastic or seaweed to ensure that you get the maximum benefits. Not only does this type of treatment draw out impurities from your body, it also replaces these toxins with health-boosting minerals. I always feel so much lighter and healthier after a full body wrap. This detox spa treatment is also amazing for bloating and cellulite. It’s a great pre-vacation treatment!
A salt scrub leaves your skin silky smooth and baby soft, and it has plenty of detoxifying benefits to boot. The gentle, circular motions of a salt scrub treatment stimulate the lymphatic system, helping to rid your body of lingering toxins. It also invigorates the skin and gives you a healthy glow, so you’ll feel amazing both inside and out after this detox spa treatment!
One of the most common uses of contrast hydrotherapy is to help athletes recover from injuries. However, it’s also one of the best detox spa treatments around. It involves immersing yourself in very hot and cold water to increase the blood flow to the deepest layers of tissue.
In a spa setting, water circuit therapy usually involves a soak in a warm salt pool, ten minutes or so in the sauna or steam room, and then a quick plunge into a very cold pool. The hot treatments help you to sweat out toxins, whilst the cold water constricts your blood vessels and directs oxygen-rich blood towards deep tissues, speeding up the healing process.
As well as an effective treatment for sports injuries, water circuit therapy can strengthen the immune system, increase energy and boost cardiovascular fitness levels. Not bad, huh?
